Beyond Paradise actress Barbara Flynn has hinted that a major “bombshell” is on the horizon for Humphrey.
The fourth series of the popular BBC drama kicked off last week, with Detective Inspector Humphrey Goodman (Kris Marshall) returning to tackle crimes in the Devon village of Shipton Abbott. Now Barbara, who portrays his mother-in-law Anne Lloyd, has suggested that some turbulence lies ahead.
Anne’s participation in local politics and law enforcement creates some tension with Humphrey, and when questioned about what happens, the actress revealed: “At a certain point in this series, a bombshell drops. It makes Humphrey think, ‘Oh my God, not only is Anne at home, but she’s also going to be in my work now’. All I can say is that it’s going to be a major challenge for both of them.”
Kris initially appeared in the BBC’s crime series Death in Paradise, which takes place on the fictional Caribbean island of Saint Marie, before returning as Humphrey in its offshoot Beyond Paradise.

The previous series saw the detective investigating a variety of incidents in his Devon community, and in the Christmas episode he married his long-time partner Martha (Sally Bretton).
Kris shared some insights into the show’s newest instalment during a recent visit to The One Show, where he teased that “drama” was in store, reports the Express. He explained that after the nuptials in the festive special, “there’s not the will-they-won’t-they drama going on”.
“But there’s a lot more dramas following him,” he continued. “Drama is not too far away with Humphrey!”
The actor was also asked about his favourite case from the new episodes.

“Well, I mean, I always love anything involving water and being in the water or on the water,” the star revealed. “We have got a wonderful episode this season about mermaids. So obviously that invariably involves a lot of water. And yeah, so that’s always my favourite.”
Death in Paradise made its debut in 2011, with Kris featuring from the third to the sixth series.
Beyond Paradise, which follows his character as he relocates to Devon and teams up with Detective Sergeant Esther Williams (Zahra Ahmadi), premiered in 2023.
Both Beyond Paradise and Death in Paradise are broadcast on the BBC.
