Emmerdale’s Natalie J Robb breaks silence on huge Corriedale storyline – and says more shocks are in store

MARRIED to Emmerdale’s biggest bad boy, Moira Dingle has faced a rollercoaster ride on the soap over the years.
But nothing could have prepared her for the bombshell on the Corriedale special when it was revealed that hubby Cain was suffering from cancer.
The one-off mash-up of ITV’s Emmerdale and Coronation Street, which aired last night, saw Cain get shot after coming across a huge crash.
Then when he was taken to hospital, tests uncovered the fact he had the disease.
And Moira actress Natalie J Robb insists the surprises do not end there, hinting that it’s only the beginning of months of heartache for the Dales couple.
She said: “There’s loads of changes coming up, loads with Moira and Cain. And Moira is going to get into some deep water, more so than she has ever been in before.
“There’s loads of things happening. There are going to be more exciting storylines, some dark, some happy — and some incredibly sad.”
There was plenty of drama on last night’s show.
Moira was seen in the car with Cain taking his newly-wed granddaughter Sarah and her husband Jacob to the airport for their honeymoon.
They come across the scene of the multiple-vehicle smash and leap out to help, only for Cain to end up getting shot by the m.u.r.d.e.r.o.u.s John Sugden.
As nerve-racking as it was for viewers to watch, the cast found it utterly thrilling to mix it up.
Natalie said: “I really, really enjoyed it — we had a really good time.
“I know some of the guys from other shows I’ve worked on.”
She worked with Alison King — aka Corrie’s Carla Connor — on Sky One drama Dream Team in 2000. “So we’ve known each other a very long time,” Natalie added. “She’s brilliant!
“And then we got to know a few of them while working together. It was lovely and we had a real good laugh.”
Prepare tabby shocked
Ricky Gervais has warned that material in his new Netflix animated sitcom Alley Cats is even harsher than his Golden Globes A-list putdowns.
The Office star, who went viral for his gags about Mel Gibson and Tim Allen as host of the ceremony, says the six-part series will be highly offensive to some, because he can get away with more being a cartoon moggie.
He explains: “You think I get away with what I was saying at the Golden Globes, but when you’re an adorable cat you can say what the f**k you like.
“You can go further than anyone has ever gone. Some of it is like prison talk, it’s mental.”
Ricky describes the comedy – which is likely to land this year – as a cross between Animal Farm, Derek and Clive and Only Fools and Horses.
Speaking on the Romesh Ranganathan show podcast, Ricky added: “This is my favourite thing I’ve ever done.”
I’m a Celebrity favourite Tom Read Wilson has landed a new job on ITV’s This Morning.
The linguist will host new segment Find the Right Words to help viewers pen speeches for key moments.
He said: “I’m becoming the scribe and converting it into a sonnet, or a poem or a speech.”
Shear luck of live MOTD
Football hero Alan Shearer claims “the buzz” of doing Match of the Day live on TV is almost as exciting as scoring a goal.
The ex-Newcastle United and England striker tells Robson Green’s Weekend Escapes on BBC Two tomorrow: “Two or three times a week I was playing football and scoring goals or walking out at St James’s or Wembley in front of thousands and thousands of people.
“And I think, when you leave football, where do you get that hit from?
“I got slightly lucky because I left the football dressing room but then went into another dressing room which was ex-footballers in the media.
“So I still had Gary Lineker, Alan Hansen, Ian Wright and Lee Dixon.
“And all the live TV still gets the knots going in my stomach. It doesn’t quite hit the heights of scoring a goal but it’s a close substitute and I think that’s how I got lucky.”
Craig’s Strictly set plan
Craig Revel Horwood seems to have answered the question on TV land’s lips: Is Strictly Come Dancing returning next year?
Despite a string of issues leaving a question mark over its future, the answer – according to the flamboyant judge – is an emphatic, “Yes!”.
Talking on Nottingham Hospitals Radio, Craig insists he’s got his whole year mapped out – and it very much includes the BBC One dance show.
He said: “I’ve got a busy 2026. I have the tour, then I’m going to record the album, then I have a wedding out in Australia in August, then Strictly starts in September – and I will be doing Strictly in September, October, November and December.
“And I’m sure I will be doing panto again, and then the Strictly tour.”
