Sad News Charley Webb’s Emotional Tribute to Jeff Hordley as ‘Father Figure’ Shakes Emmerdale Fans!

💔 Emmerdale’s Charlie Webb Sends Emotional Father’s Day Messages to Jeff Hordley and Ex Matthew Wolfenden
Former Emmerdale star Charlie Webb has tugged at fans’ heartstrings with a pair of heartfelt Father’s Day tributes — one to her on-screen dad Jeff Hordley, and another to her real-life ex-partner Matthew Wolfenden.
Charlie, best known for her long-running role as Debbie Dingle in the ITV soap, took to Instagram on Sunday, June 15, to share her emotions on what she called a “bittersweet” day.
🌾 A Message to Her On-Screen Dad
In her first post, Charlie shared a striking monochrome snap of herself dressed up as Jeff Hordley’s character Cain Dingle, complete with his signature dark brows and intense glare. Fans of the soap will recall that Debbie and Cain’s tumultuous father-daughter bond was one of the show’s most compelling relationships for nearly two decades.
“To this father of mine,” Charlie wrote warmly, adding: “That time I dressed up as you. The eyebrows are so accurate it’s scary.”
The post resonated with Emmerdale fans, especially as Jeff’s character Cain continues to grieve on-screen following the shocking death of his son Nate — a tragedy he is unaware was orchestrated by John Sugden.
💔 A Tribute to Her Real-Life Ex
Shortly afterward, Charlie shared a touching montage dedicated to her former partner, fellow Emmerdale star Matthew Wolfenden. The couple, who met on set in 2006 and married in 2018, welcomed three sons before announcing their separation in 2023.
Posting a carousel of sweet family photos featuring Matthew and their boys, Charlie captioned it: “Thanks for being a great dad to the boys @matthewwolfenden55, they adore you ❤️”
The message comes months after Matthew publicly reflected on their split, calling it “a big shock,” but emphasizing that they remain friends and committed co-parents. “We had the best 15 years together and we got the best three kids out of it,” he told fans recently.
🌏 What’s Next for Debbie Dingle?
Charlie made her Emmerdale debut in 2002 and was a central figure in the Dales until taking a break in 2019. She briefly returned between 2020 and 2021, but her character’s future was recently addressed on-screen when her daughter Sarah phoned Debbie — only to learn she had married Chris and moved to Australia without telling her family.
The revelation dashed fans’ hopes that Debbie might return to the village, especially amid the arrival of Joe Tate.
❤️ Still Part of the Family
Though she may have stepped away from the soap, Charlie’s posts are a clear reminder of the deep bonds she forged on and off set. As fans flooded her social media with support, one summed it up perfectly: “No matter where you are, you’ll always be a Dingle.”
