Emmerdale is currently tackling a hard-hitting storyline centred on beloved character Cain Dingle, and he’s in for a stressful week ahead.

Recently, on the ITV soap, Cain (played by Jeff Hordley) received a diagnosis of aggressive but localised prostate cancer and is facing upcoming surgery, which he’s finding difficult to come to terms with.

Overwhelmed by the shock diagnosis and the potential side effects of the recommended treatment, Cain originally refused to have his life-changing surgery for fear it might affect his marriage with Moira Dingle (Natalie J Robb).

Thankfully, he changed his mind. Next week, the day of Cain’s operation arrives, and he is trying to be strong as Moira supports him.

But elsewhere, Kyle Winchester (Huey Quinn) is having breakfast at the café and is worried about his dad’s impending surgery.

Over at the hospital, Cain is wheeled off into surgery, leaving Kyle in panic, but he is soon relieved to learn that Cain’s prostate surgery operation went well.

However, Cain’s relief is short-lived when he is confronted with the reality of his catheter and worries about potential permanent incontinence.

As he spirals, Cain begins to fake pain to avoid being discharged home from the hospital, leaving Moira frustrated by his actions.

Cain’s anger is elevated once more when he realises there is a bad atmosphere when Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) and Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) visit, and once they’ve gone, Moira is forced to admit it was Robert who planted the identity documents that got her arrested.

The news leaves Cain raging with revenge, and later, he secretly asks his brother Sam (James Hooton) for a favour, which he agrees to.

The next day, Robert is working on the farm and, whilst investigating a noise in the barn, is attacked from behind and knocked unconscious by Sam.

Robert wakes up tied to a chair, confronted by a brooding Cain with a hammer, who demands that Robert ‘pay’ for his actions. Will Cain kill Robert for putting his wife in jail?
