Dᴇᴀᴛʜ in Paradise has made a return to BBC One, delighting fans with reruns from its 10th series, featuring Ralf Little as the lead detective DI Neville Parker.

The show’s 10th season also sees the return of some beloved characters such as DS Florence Cassell, portrayed by Josephine Jobert, and Sergeant JP Hooper, played by Tobi Bakare.

However, one character that remains dearly missed by the audience is Marlon Pryce, brought to life by Tahj Miles. Marlon joined the team through a reform programme aimed at rehabilitating minor offenders.

Under JP’s mentorship, Marlon developed a genuine commitment to his policing. Sadly, he left in season 13 after his sister got a scholarship in Jamaica.

Marlon’s exit saw him embarking on a new chapter with the Jamaican police force, thanks to assistance from his former mentor. For those curious about why the character left, here’s what you need to know.

Tahj Miles exited the show as it evolved naturally, and he was eager to explore fresh opportunities.

His departure was amicable, and he soon secured a part in the BBC production Mr Loverman. Speaking to Radio Times, he shared his initial apprehension about the transition.

He said: “When I booked the job, it was just a good feeling to know that I can book something else other than Dᴇᴀᴛʜ in Paradise.

“But then it was nerve-wracking because I’ve just been in the head of Marlon for four years, so to jump into a whole different character who has his whole different problems and things he has to go through, it was scary.”

When he departed, he reassured fans that the door would remain open for his character’s potential return. At the time, he explained: “Just know that on my end, [the exit] made sense to me.”

He added: “And if you don’t see me on the show for the next two, three years, just know that it doesn’t make sense in that moment in time, for whatever reason, whether it’s just what I’m doing personally in my life, the direction they’re going in on the show, the direction they want to bring the character back into.”

His fans discussed his exit on Reddit. User Specific-Dealer-1547 expressed disappointment, stating: “I still can’t get over the fact Marlon is gone. He was definitely my favourite character and I feel like it was very sudden how he made that decision to leave.”

“Such a shame, he was such a good character, especially with his development into becoming a really good, hardworking police officer.”

User Whatever-and-breathe concurred: “Yes agreed I really liked this character… And is exit was really sudden too particularly when the writers were clearly hinting to a potential relationship for him.”
