Death in Paradise star teases ‘reunion’ with former detective in spin-off series

Death in Paradise star Josephine Jobert has opened up about a potential return to the BBC series as Florence Cassell, after she left the show earlier this year

Josephine Jobert, famed for her role as Florence Cassell in Death in Paradise, has expressed her willingness to feature in the show’s spin-off, Beyond Paradise, which stars Kris Marshall and Sally Bretton.

Josephine previously starred alongside Kris when he played Humphrey Goodman on Death in Paradise, before his character left for London with Martha (played by Sally Bretton), leading to Ardal O’Hanlon taking over as the lead detective.

The love story of Humphrey and Martha is further explored in Beyond Paradise, set in the fictional Shipton Abbott.

The first series saw a crossover event where characters from Death in Paradise appeared in the spin-off, marking Humphrey’s return to Saint Marie and his introduction to Neville Parker (portrayed by Ralf Little).

Although Josephine has made it clear she doesn’t intend to rejoin Death in Paradise full-time, she’s open to the idea of making guest appearances, reports Express.

In a recent Q&A on Instagram, Josephine was asked by one fan: “Would you do a guest spot on Beyond Paradise the spin-off?”

The actress simply replied: “Yes, why not?”

She stated in a previous Q&A: “I’ve finally been able to say goodbye to Florence, and while I am very grateful to have been part of this project that has brought so many lovely things in my life, I am also happy to be able to move on and take part in new projects.”

She acknowledged the fans’ desire to see more of Florence, saying, “But I completely understand why the question is asked. In fact, I am very touched that the public wants to continue following Florence.”

Josephine’s character bid farewell to Death in Paradise earlier this year, as she and her on-screen love interest Neville decided to sail off into the sunset.

Shortly after her departure, it was announced by BBC chiefs that Don Gilet would be stepping into Ralf Little’s shoes as the show’s lead detective.

Speaking about taking on the iconic role, the former EastEnders star said: “Being offered the new lead role in Death in Paradise feels like a deeply loved and incredibly precious jewel has been placed in my hands.

“This is a big show, with a big heart and the love continually grows for it. It is my intention to never lose sight of that and to remain grateful, humbled and dedicated.

“Even during those testing times when every sinew is screaming at me to run off the set and dive into the sea, swimming pool or an ice-cold beer – whichever happens to be closer at the time!”
