Emmerdale’s Rebecca Sarker reveals what’s next for Manpreet and Ross after steamy scenes
Emmerdale's Manpreet Sharma and Ross Barton spent the night together last month, but things quickly turned sour and actress Rebecca Sarker has now teased a reunion
Emmerdale’s setting is ready to sizzle with an unexpected couple stealing the spotlight, as teased by one of the soap’s stars.
After a surprising hook-up followed by a public falling-out, it seems the two villagers might just give romance another shot. Last month saw Manpreet Sharma (Rebecca Sarker) and Ross Barton (Mike Parr) enjoy a flirty night out, culminating in a passionate encounter.
However, Ross’ attempts to brush off their night together didn’t sit well with Manpreet the next day. A fiery confrontation ensued, with Manpreet publicly snubbing Ross, seemingly putting an end to their brief liaison.
While the viewers remain split on their thoughts about this potential pairing, Rebecca Sarker, who plays Manpreet, has hinted at exciting developments for the duo. In an exclusive chat with The Mirror, she revealed that the storyline “had legs” and promised more “sizzling” moments ahead.
She opened up about revisiting the duo’s dynamic, suggesting the birth of a brand-new Emmerdale couple could be on the horizon. Reflecting on last month’s scenes, she said: “That was a bit of a surprise.”, reports the Mirror.
“Emmerdale are keeping me on my toes. It was great fun. I think Manpreet is having a bit of an awakening. She has come out of a relationship with the hot vicar, Charles, and now she’s moved on to the hot security guard.”
Sarker continued, highlighting the undeniable spark between them: “There’s flirtation there and chemistry. It’s a mismatch but sometimes that works. Opposites attract.”
She even playfully proposed a ship name for Manpreet and Ross, adding: “It was funny and I loved filming it. It was a nice, frivolous side, a playful side.
“We have all got that in us we just need someone to get it out of us. It’s lovely and fun to play. Super fun.”
Discussing what’s on the horizon, she added: “I suppose there’s certainly legs for Ross and Manpreet’s story. There is potential there. It’s sizzling. Let’s just say it is sizzling. I quite like them. What would their name be? RossPreet? ManRoss? Let’s go with ManRoss.”
Rebecca also responded to fan requests for the comeback of Manpreet’s serial k.i.l.l.e.r sister Meena Jutla in the show. She remarked: “I’d love for Paige Sandhu to come back because we got on famously well. I’m not sure how it would work with Meena though.
“Maybe a final showdown, and I don’t think Manpreet would come out of that very well so no, don’t bring her back! Keep her away!” When quizzed about speculation around Manpreet possibly having hurt Joe Tate, Rebecca clarified the character’s moral compass.
She explained: “I don’t think so. I know she shares DNA with a nutter, a serial k.i.l.l.e.r, Meena, but Manrpeet is firmly on the other side of the law. She is too straight for that.”
Finally, Rebecca shared her excitement about Robert Sugden’s return to the soap, confessing that although she knew Ryan Hawley was returning, his comeback scenes still took her by surprise. She exclaimed: “Wasn’t that wonderful?”.
“I kept saying who is this guy, who is Marco. I knew Ryan was coming back. I think it’s wonderful. It’s clearly something everyone has been itching for. It is incredible and it shows you the power of the fans and supporters of the show. They are invested, that’s all we need and want, invested, loyal fans.”
Emmerdale airs weeknights on ITV1 at 7.30pm and available to stream from 7am on ITVX
