EastEnders has welcomed a new family onto the Square, including troublemaker Ned, played by Beyond Paradise star Jamie Bamber.

During Monday’s (August 31) episode of the BBC soap, Jamie made his debut as Ned, the brother-in-law of Nicola Mitchell (Laura Doddington), as her family made a jaw-dropping arrival in Walford, and drama quickly ensued. However, away from the bright lights of Walford, the Beyond Paradise star has famous family connections.

The 53-year-old married actress Kerry Norton in 2003, though it’s not known when the pair tied the knot, and they share three daughters: Isla and twins Darcy and Ava. The couple, who both starred in Battlestar Galactica, met on the set of the film The Devil’s Tattoo back in 2001.

What else has Kerry Nortan starred in?

Kerry’s additional acting work includes portraying Maxi Purvis in the hit ITV prison drama Bad Girls and a spell in EastEnders as nurse Rosa, while she has also ventured into music, dropping an album in 2005.

She has featured in films including The Devil’s Tattoo, Monday Nights at Seven, and Dirty God. Prior to her acting breakthrough, she was a gymnast, with one of her earliest screen appearances being in an episode of Sabrina the Teenage Witch.

Kerry’s latest acting work encompasses portraying Mary Ann ‘Polly’ Nichols in the 2025 series Jack the Ripper: Written in Blood and taking on the role of Matilde in the fantasy action flick Warlord.

Kerry and Jamie are renowned for maintaining their relationship away from the spotlight, although they occasionally appear together at red-carpet occasions.

On Monday (August 31), Nicola’s world was thrown into chaos when her sisters, Jodie and Gemma Hawkins (Anna Constable and Patricia Potter), made a dramatic comeback with Gemma’s son, Ryder (Felix Uff), now accompanying them.

The unwanted relatives managed to infiltrate Nicola’s home, and she cautioned them to ensure that her estranged mother, Rose (Marian McLoughlin), remained absent from her life.

However, her demand proved fleeting when Ned (Jamie Bamber), Gemma’s partner, arrived with Rose in tow, completing the Hawkins clan.

Later Nicola is horrified to find the family gathered in The Vic and even more shocked when she learns Alfie Moon (Shane Richie) has offered Gemma and Ned a place to stay.

As the week goes on, Nicola’s bond with her family appears fractured, though the question remains: What brings them to Walford?

EastEnders airs Monday to Thursday on BBC One and iPlayer.
