A devastating twist could soon leave Walford in mourning as Zoe Slater’s dramatic return to EastEnders appears to be heading toward a heartbreaking conclusion. Although the soap confirmed last month that Zoe would be leaving the Square, new filming details have raised the possibility that her exit will be far more permanent than fans expected. Funeral scenes have reportedly been filmed, with several familiar members of the Slater family gathering together to say their final goodbyes.

The development has immediately sparked one major question: who is responsible for Zoe’s apparent death, and what exactly happens to her before those funeral scenes take place? 

According to reports from the filming location, Kat, Big Mo, Josh, Jasmine, Lily and Tommy were all present as the Slater family gathered for the emotional scenes. Jean and Alfie were also seen participating in the filming, adding even more weight to the suggestion that Walford could soon be dealing with a devastating loss.

If Zoe really is being killed off, her exit would come just one year after Michelle Ryan made her much-anticipated return to the role. Her comeback was a major moment for longtime viewers, particularly because Zoe remains one of the most recognizable figures connected to the Slater family. Her return promised an opportunity to explore what had happened to her away from Albert Square and whether she could finally overcome the personal battles that had followed her for years.

Instead, her second chapter in Walford has been anything but peaceful.

When Zoe came back, she was reunited with her family and attempted to rebuild her life while confronting the emotional difficulties that had haunted her. But the situation became increasingly complicated when she discovered the truth surrounding her twins, Jasmine and Josh.

For a time, it seemed that Zoe’s storyline might move in a completely different direction. The revelation about her children opened the door to a possible reunion with their father, Anthony Truman. There was even a sense that Zoe might finally have an opportunity to repair parts of her past and create a more stable future for herself and her children.

Unfortunately, Anthony’s intentions were not as genuine as they appeared.

He had been manipulating those around him, and his actions eventually pushed the situation toward a horrifying turning point. The consequences were catastrophic when Jasmine killed Anthony, leaving the family to deal with the aftermath of a shocking and traumatic event.

Now, with Zoe apparently facing her own tragic fate, fans are left wondering whether her final storyline could somehow be connected to the chaos surrounding her family.

Desperate to become a mother herself, Suki crossed a line by pressuring the frightened teenager to continue with the pregnancy.

Eve eventually realized that Avani did not want to have the baby and supported her decision to terminate the pregnancy. That choice placed enormous pressure on Eve and Suki’s relationship, especially once Avani’s parents, Priya Nandra Heart and Ravi Gulati, discovered what had happened.

The fallout was severe enough to drive Suki and Eve apart temporarily.

However, their relationship survived another horrifying ordeal when Eve became the victim of a homophobic attack. The experience ultimately brought the couple closer together, and Eve later agreed that they should explore adoption as a way of building the family they both wanted.

Their journey still had plenty of obstacles ahead.

Eve’s mother, Norma, strongly disapproved of their plans and attempted to interfere. Then concerns emerged when their social worker learned that Ravi’s involvement in a drug operation had affected his family circumstances.

Even their adoption panel meeting became surrounded by conflict. The meeting happened on the anniversary of Jag Panesar’s death, leading to an emotional confrontation between Suki and Vinny Panesar. Overwhelmed by everything happening around her, Suki walked away from the meeting.

Things became even uglier later when she became involved in a drunken and violent confrontation with Nicola Mitchell. Nicola secretly captured the incident on CCTV and eventually used the footage to blackmail both Suki and Eve.

Yet somehow, despite all those setbacks, Suki and Eve’s adoption application was eventually approved.

Their dream appeared to come true when they welcomed young Rhea Verma into their home. They even managed to begin repairing their damaged relationship with Nicola.

But becoming a family has not been as easy as they hoped.

Rhea continues to miss her biological mother, making it difficult for Suki and Eve to develop the bond they desperately want. Eve has struggled particularly badly with the emotional pressure, although she unexpectedly received useful parenting advice from Nicola.

For now, the conflict between Nicola and the couple appears to have settled. But that does not necessarily mean the danger is gone.

Actress Laura Doddington, who plays Nicola, has hinted that viewers should not completely rule out her character becoming involved in the couple’s future. She expressed hope that Nicola and Suki and Eve could maintain a healthier relationship, describing it as refreshing to see two women move beyond their conflict and support each other.

Elsewhere, another beloved family will soon be preparing for a major change.

Lee and Nancy Carter are set to return to Albert Square as part of Linda Carter’s upcoming exit storyline. Fans were left devastated when Kellie Bright announced her departure after 13 years playing the iconic character.

Before Linda leaves Walford, however, she will have the opportunity to reunite with all of her children.

Danny Hatchard and Maddy Hill have already returned to filming, with Lee and Nancy expected to appear alongside Linda and their younger siblings Johnny, Ollie and Annie.

The exact reason for their return remains one of EastEnders’ closely guarded secrets. Producers have revealed very little about what brings the pair back, but their arrival is certain to create an emotional reunion for Linda and the Carter family.

Ben Wadey has teased that Linda will be thrilled to have all of her children together again, but he has also suggested that the family will have plenty of unfinished business to discuss.

Kellie Bright’s departure is being treated as a major moment for the soap. Wadey has praised her as an exceptional actress and described Linda Carter as one of the greatest characters in EastEnders history. Losing Linda after such a long run will undoubtedly leave a huge hole in the Square.

The production team therefore intends to make her final months especially memorable, bringing her family back together before she leaves.

But while the Carter storyline promises emotion and reunions, Zoe Slater’s apparent funeral points toward something much darker.
