Fletchers’ Family Farm’s Liz Fletcher Admits Heartbreak as Couple Are Forced to Sell Beloved Animals

Fletchers’ Family Farm star Liz Fletcher has opened up about an emotional dilemma on the family’s farm, admitting that she is struggling with the decision to sell their much-loved alpacas.

Liz and her husband Kelvin Fletcher have won over ITV viewers by documenting the realities of swapping their acting careers for life on a working farm. But alongside the heartwarming moments, the couple have also shown that farming can involve difficult choices — especially when emotions collide with the practical needs of the business.

In a repeated episode aired on Monday, August 17, Liz revealed that the family needs to find new homes for their alpacas in order to create more space for other livestock.

However, letting them go is proving much harder than she expected.

Liz admits she doesn’t want to say goodbye

Viewers have watched Kelvin and Liz build their farming life over the past few years, tackling everything from lambing and harvesting to caring for an ever-growing collection of animals on their 120-acre farm.

The alpacas have become particularly special to Liz.

During an earlier instalment, while the animals were being sheared, she admitted that the family would be sad to lose them.

Kelvin agreed that saying goodbye would be difficult, describing the alpacas as wonderful animals full of character. However, he explained that finding them another suitable home was ultimately the right decision as the family continues to focus on its plans for the farm.

For Liz, though, the practical reasoning has done little to make the emotional side of the decision easier.

During the latest repeat, she looked at one of the alpacas and confessed just how attached she had become.

“I want you! I really want you, but Kelvin says we have to sell you,” she said.

It was a lighthearted remark, but it revealed the genuine conflict at the heart of the situation: Liz loves having the alpacas around, even though they no longer fit into the farm’s long-term plans.

The sale isn’t going according to plan

There is another complication — finding buyers has proved surprisingly difficult.

Liz explained that the sale was “going slowly”, suggesting that demand for alpacas had declined.

According to her, poor weather had also contributed to the problem, with fewer people currently looking to add alpacas to their farms.

That means the Fletchers are facing an awkward waiting game.

They know they need the space, but they are equally determined not to rush the animals into an unsuitable new home.

Liz explained that although the alpacas are lovely to have around, they are occupying valuable space that could otherwise be used for livestock more closely connected to the family’s future farming plans.

“They are so cute and nice to be around, but it’s not the plan for the farm, so hopefully we’ll get a buyer for them soon,” she said.

Until then, the family will continue caring for them as usual.

Kelvin explains why the decision has to be made

While Liz’s attachment to the animals was clear, Kelvin highlighted the practical reality facing the farm.

The couple want to concentrate more heavily on livestock that fits their ambition of developing the farm around native breeds.

But space is limited.

Kelvin explained in a voiceover that until the family can free up more room, their plans to purchase additional livestock will have to be put on hold.

It is one of the realities that has made Fletchers’ Family Farm resonate with viewers.

Behind the picturesque countryside, adorable animals and family moments are difficult decisions about land, finances, livestock and the future direction of a working farm.

For Liz, selling the alpacas may make sense on paper — but that doesn’t make saying goodbye any easier.

From acting stars to life on the farm

Kelvin and Liz’s farming journey has become a major part of their family story.

Kelvin is best known to television audiences for playing Andy Sugden in Emmerdale, but in recent years viewers have watched him embrace an entirely different way of life alongside Liz and their children.

Their adventures have been documented on Fletchers’ Family Farm, giving audiences a glimpse at both the rewards and challenges that come with running a farm.

Rather than presenting an idealised version of rural life, the programme has frequently shown the family learning as they go — from caring for newborn animals to coping with the unpredictable pressures of farming.

And it is moments such as Liz’s reluctance to part with the alpacas that have given the series its emotional heart.

The animals may be part of a working farm, but for the Fletcher family, many inevitably become much more than livestock.

Fans have more Fletchers’ Family Farm to look forward to

Despite the difficult decision surrounding the alpacas, there is exciting news for fans of the ITV series.

Fletchers’ Family Farm is currently in its fourth series, and the family has already revealed that a fifth series is planned.

The announcement was warmly welcomed by viewers, many of whom have followed Kelvin and Liz’s journey from the beginning.

Fans took to social media to celebrate the news, describing the programme as a “beautiful show” and an “absolute gem”, while others said they were already looking forward to seeing the family return.

For now, however, one question remains unresolved: when will Liz finally find the right new home for the alpacas she clearly doesn’t want to lose?

Whatever happens, it seems certain that saying goodbye will be one of the more bittersweet moments in the Fletcher family’s continuing farming adventure.
