When is Emmerdale on this week? ITV’s World Cup 2026 schedule as footy tournament reaches semi-finals

EMMERDALE fans tuning in for their usual fix of Dales drama are in for further disappointment this week.

Coverage of World Cup 2026 has once again booted the soap from the schedules this week, but there will be an hour-long ‘special’ to make up for it.

When is Coronation Street on this week?

Thankfully, Emmerdale is on tonight (Monday, July 13) in the normal 8pm slot.

But there is no episode of Emmerdale on Tuesday (July 14) as ITV is showing the massive World Cup 2026 semi-final between France and Spain.

Tuesday and Wednesday’s episodes will be shown together as an hour-long ‘special’ to make up for the missing installment.

It will air between 8pm and 9pm on Wednesday (July 15) – England’s make-or-break World Cup semi-final with Argentina is being shown on the BBC.

This week’s Emmerdale schedule is as follows:

• Monday, July 13: 8pm – 8.30pm on ITV1
• Tuesday, July 14: No episode
• Wednesday, July 15: 8pm – 9pm ITV1
• Thursday, July 16: 8pm – 8.30pm on ITV1
• Friday, July 17: 8pm – 8.30pm on ITV1

It is the latest in a long run of disruptions caused by the channel’s sport coverage.

An insider said: “It’s proving quite the headache behind the scenes.

“Soap fans have already had to get used to the new slots, which came in at the beginning of the year, so with more changes coming there’s a real fear they could lose more viewers.

“Airing the episodes on a Sunday just does not work and now with the new schedule it’s very unlikely they’ll be able to run before these big World Cup matches start.

“There are lots of discussions behind the scenes about what they can do.”

But there is an hour-long special to make up for the soap being bumped on Tuesday due to the football.

If you can’t wait until the evening, episodes are also available to stream on ITVX from 7am on the days Emmerdale airs.

When do the hour-long ‘specials’ air on ITV?

In December 2025, ITV confirmed it was launching the channel’s ‘soap power hour’ scheduling pattern for Emmerdale and Coronation Street.

The format features 30-minute episodes of both soaps every weekday, with Emmerdale at 8pm followed by Coronation Street at 8.30pm on ITV1.

But due to a number of major sporting events, this has not regularly been the case for months now.

The channel sometimes releases hour-long specials to make up for the missed episodes.

This week there is one extended episode of Emmerdale on Wednesday from 8pm.
