Emmerdale’s Serena Sugden made their first appearance on the ITV soap just last month and they’ve already sparked intrigue.
Serena, played by Casey Al-Shaqsy, turned up in the village last month as part of the Sugden family, being the granddaughter of Robert Sugden’s father Jack’s cousin.
Revealing they were homeless and unemployed, Serena chose to turn to her family in the village for assistance. Since arriving, Serena has been taken in by Sarah Sugden’s household and Charity Dingle has given her employment as a barmaid at The Woolpack after opening up to the newcomer about her recent difficulties.
Nevertheless, Serena has been arousing suspicion in recent episodes. Recently, Serena has started digging for details about her late serial killer cousin John Sugden, whom she had been acquainted with, and his victim Nate Robinson.
During Friday’s episode, while serving Moira Dingle in the pub, Serena began fishing for information once more, particularly regarding Nate.

But Moira was immediately suspicious and defensive towards Serena as she marched out of The Woolpack, declining to respond to her interrogation.
Taking to social media, viewers were swift to share their theories about what Serena is concealing and her genuine identity.
One person commented: “I think Serena is a journalist!” to which another viewer replied: “She’s asking an awful lot of questions and how did she know about what happened to Nate ?”.

A different fan posted: “She doesn’t stop asking questions think she has a ulterior motive!” Another soap viewer remarked: “She’s definitely able to turn her hand at a lot of things which a journalist would be able to so that they could go places undercover.”
To which a fellow fan responded: “Yes she is to interested in John Sugden deffo Reporter or writing a book about him.”
This follows Emmerdale Producer Laura Shaw commenting on the new character: “The Sugdens are a core part of the Emmerdale fabric, and we are thrilled to welcome Casey to the family.
“Her character will be at the heart of some extremely gripping and unexpected storylines, forcing her to make difficult choices that will have dramatic consequences for some of the village’s biggest names.”
Casey herself spoke of her excitement at joining the long-running Yorkshire soap: “I’m absolutely thrilled to be joining such an iconic show and playing a Sugden! Serena is a fantastic character with so much going on beneath the surface. I can’t wait for the audience to see the drama unfold.”
