Mackenzie Boyd’s (Lawrence Robb) world upended when he learned the enormity of the betrayal against him in Emmerdale.

Not just that wife Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) cheated on him and then lied about the baby she conceived, also the fact that his best friend betrayed him too – the one who slept with his wife.

While this news crushed Mack’s very soul, he’s tried his best to take it on the chin to be there for Charity while she goes through the ordeal of the rape case.

But after offloading to unexpected confidante Kev Townsend (Chris Coghill), Mack was encouraged to seek revenge.

First, he tried to get it from Doctor Caitlin Todd (Caroline Harker), Charity’s rapist, but it ended up with him getting a visit from the police for threatening to kill her. It backfired, but he’s not done.

Now his attention turns to Ross.

The pair became best pals from around the time Charity got pregnant, which is just an extra dose of salt in the wound.

‘Mack feels deeply betrayed by Ross’, actor Lawrence Robb shared.

‘They were becoming close friends, so learning that Ross knew about Leyla feels like a big betrayal. While he might understand Charity’s motivations better due to his love for her, the betrayal from Ross is harder to reconcile. I think there’s a lot of anger directed towards Ross – not so much because of the infidelity but because of the reality of Leyla’s biological parentage.’

He asks for Ross to help him at the farm, but he has a revenge plan up his sleeve. Ross senses something and tries to check that he and Mack are ok, and Mack says they’re hunky dory.

Ross isn’t the sharpest tool but even he knows that something is up. The problem is his own cockiness, believing he can handle whatever Mack might throw at him.

Lawrence explained what is going on in Mackenzie’s mind during these scenes: ‘Mack doesn’t have a calculated plan. He’s driven by pure instinct and a desperate need to get Ross alone to confront him. He wants the truth – he wants to hear it straight from the horse’s mouth. What happens at the farm, however, is not premeditated. It’s a volatile situation that spirals very quickly.’

The tension rises as they try and work together. As they load bags from a trailer, things descend into madness and eventually the only place to go is violence.

Trouble is, they’re on the mezzanine of the barn and all Mack has to do is give Ross a hard shove and gravity takes revenge for him. Then leaves Ross for dead.

Knowing that Dr Todd is found dead in a pool of her own blood, has Mack taken his revenge on these two too far?
