Are Emmerdale and Coronation Street on tonight? ITV schedule as international football clash causes disruption

SOAP fans hoping for their usual evening fix are set to be disappointed as the summer of schedule shake-ups continues.

Both Emmerdale and Coronation Street have been bumped from tonight’s line-up, with ITV’s football coverage taking centre stage.

What time are Emmerdale and Coronation Street on tonight?

Unfortunately, neither soap is on TV tonight – Tuesday, June 9.

Both Emmerdale and Coronation Street have been pulled from ITV1, and the episodes will not be available to stream on ITVX either.

In their place, ITV1 is showing the Lionesses’ World Cup qualifier against Ukraine, with coverage from 7.30pm and kick-off at 8pm, taking over the soaps’ usual power hour between 8pm and 9pm.

The good news is that the missing episodes will be made up later in the week.

Why aren’t Emmerdale and Coronation Street on ITV tonight?

Emmerdale normally airs at 8pm on weeknights, followed by Coronation Street at 8.30pm, with both also dropping on ITVX at 7am.

But tonight that makes way for the football.

It is the latest in a long run of soap disruptions caused by ITV’s sport coverage, and the shake-up has not gone down well with everyone.

A source said: “It’s proving quite the headache behind the scenes.

“Soap fans have already had to get used to the new slots, which came in at the beginning of the year, so with more changes coming there’s a real fear they could lose more viewers.

“Airing the episodes on a Sunday just does not work and now with the new schedule it’s very unlikely they’ll be able to run before these big World Cup matches start.

“There are lots of discussions behind the scenes about what they can do.”

When are Emmerdale and Coronation Street back on TV?

There are more schedule shake-ups to come.

On Wednesday, June 10, both soaps return but earlier than usual, with Emmerdale at 7pm and Corrie at 7.30pm.

This is to make way for England men’s World Cup warm-up against Costa Rica, with coverage starting at 8pm and the match kicking off at 9pm.

Thursday, June 11, sees no soaps at all, as ITV airs the World Cup opening ceremony from 6.15pm, followed by the tournament’s first match at 8pm, with co-hosts Mexico taking on South Africa.

The soaps are back on the box on Friday, June 12, with an hour-long episode of Emmerdale from 8pm followed by an hour of Coronation Street at 9pm.
