Only recently, Dr Todd discovered the true biological parents of baby Leyla. Charity acted as a surrogate for her granddaughter Sarah Sugden and the latter’s husband Jacob Gallagher, bringing adorable baby Leyla into the world.

However, what Charity failed to tell Sarah and Jacob is that Leyla isn’t biologically their child as the baby’s true parentage is Charity and Ross Barton following a fling.

Charity has tried her best to keep this a secret but it wasn’t long until evil Dr Todd, who has been bullying trainee doctor Jacob at the hospital for months, learnt the truth and she has been blackmailing Charity ever since.

The evil doctor has demanded £100,000 from the Woolpack co-owner, leaving Charity feeling desperate. And recently, things took a horrifying turn when Dr Todd sexually assaulted Charity on Sunday’s episode.

On Monday’s episode, the ITV soap aired the devastating Charity aftermath as she struggled to comprehend what had happened. After attempting to join her loved ones in the pub for granddaughter Sarah’s 21st, a struggling Charity fled the scene.

Later, Charity bravely headed to the police station as she reported Dr Todd to the authorities. It comes as in the forthcoming weeks, Charity will battle to process the attack, facing the choice between opening up to her nearest and dearest or keeping the trauma buried within.

Opening up on her latest storyline, Dr Todd star Caroline Harker recently said at a press event: “I think she’s just scratching the surface about the Dingles.”

The actress added: “I think she’s occupied, I think very focussed in that kind of forensic surgeon way. I think she’s focussed on that. She’ll see that through. She’s seen Jacob through. One thing at a time. But yeah, if she was there for long enough she could do some damage. She can go darker though, wait and see.”

Meanwhile, Emmerdale’s Emma Atkins, who plays Charity, remarked on the storyline: “This has been one of the most demanding and significant storylines I’ve had to navigate as Charity.

“We know her as a tough, resilient character, but this trauma will expose a deep, raw vulnerability that has been heartbreaking at times to play.

“I hope this storyline gives even one person the courage to speak out or helps others understand the quiet devastation of trauma.”
