Kelvin Fletcher’s Emmerdale return ‘sealed’ as Andy Sugden 10 years after quitting soap
Andy Sugden was last seen on Emmerdale in 2016 but fans reckon the beloved character could be heading back to the village
Emmerdale could be welcoming back Andy Sugden, according to a new fan theory.
Andy (Kelvin Fletcher) made his debut on the soap back in 1996. And as the village heartthrob, it didn’t take him long to become a firm favourite with viewers.
Throughout his stint Andy was at the heart of numerous high-stakes storylines. From his many failed romances to fathering Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill) with Debbie Dingle (Charley Webb), his time in the Dales was not short of drama.
However, after years of turmoil, Andy decided to escape the village in 2016 after being framed for the accidental shooting of Lawrence White (John Bowe) by Chrissie (Louise Marwood).
With the help half-brother Robert (Ryan Hawley), Andy was able to go on the run. Since then, Andy hasn’t been seen, but according to fans that could be about to change soon.
As viewers will know, Sarah recently became a mum after her gran and surrogate Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) gave birth to her and Jacob Sugden’s (Joe-Warren Plant) daughter, Leyla.
However, evil Dr Todd (Caroline Harker) ended up blackmailing Charity after finding out Jacob isn’t Leyla’s real father. She used this and demanded Charity to get Jacob to drop the complaint he made against her.
Jacob ended up dropping the complaint, but with more drama to come, fans reckon Andy Sugden could finally take Dr Todd down. “Bring Andy Sugden back to stop Dr Todd,” said one person on an Emmerdale Facebook fan page.
Someone else agreed: “Yes most definitely.” Echoing their thoughts, a third viewer chimed in: “Loved Andy, he would be great to help Sarah and Jacob.”
On a past episode of This Morning, Kelvin opened up on the real reason he decided to leave Emmerdale in the past. Speaking to hosts Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford, he said: “Twenty years is a long time. It’s been an incredible twenty years.
“I am so grateful to Emmerdale. Throughout that period I have always had a real sense of fulfilment and purpose. He went on to explain that he’d stumbled into acting and it had never been a lifelong dream.”
He added: “What started out as a hobby at six years old – I was then able to do something like that every day on a professional platform on one of the country’s greatest shows. I have been extremely lucky.
“Looking back over 20-years it has been a rollercoaster and for me it’s given me passion to leave and continue.”
