Life is crashing down around EastEnders’ Ravi Gulati as his dark secret about what really happened to his son Nugget was finally exposed. In Tuesday’s (21 April) episode, Ravi’s mental health spiralled out of control as he locked his family into their flat and took away their phones.

Over the past few months, Ravi’s (Aaron Thiara) mental health has been steadily deteriorating. He was already plagued by feelings over guilt over the part he played in Harry Mitchell’s (Elijah Holloway) false imprisonment, but his mental health got a lot worse after he attacked his son Nugget (Juhaim Rasul Chowdhury) whislt in a drugged state, leaving the teen in hospital and with epilepsy as a result of the a head injury.

Amid his mental health crisis, Ravi decided that his family – Nugget, daughter Avani (Aaliyah James) and girlfriend Priya (Sophie Levy) – would be safer if they stayed at home and installed two bolts on the door.

He took away their phones and insisted on everyone playing games and watching films together. But Priya and the teens wanted to be free and tried to leave.

Whilst looking for the keys to the locks on the bolts, Nugget noticed bruises on his mother’s arm and confronted his father. Ravi broke down and eventually told his son that he was the one that attacked him earlier this year.

Fans of the soap were impressed by today’s episode. One said: “Today was a brilliant episode while I can’t forgive what Ravi did to Harry and Kojo until he takes accountability. I did sympathise for his family seeing Priya , nugget and Avani all scared like that was so heartbreaking no one deserves that.

“I do hope Ravi gets the help he needs and deserves bc he’s putting his family and himself in harms way and it’s not healthy. And i don’t think Priya should be living with Ravi right now until he gets the help he needs. Bc I don’t think it’s safe for them To be there look what he did to Priya. I’m glad Ravi told nugget the truth.”

Another said: “Ravi has lost it… I feel so bad for Priya, Nugget & Avani but thank god that Ravi finally told them the truth.” A third added: “Hopefully since he told the truth it will be the first step into Ravi finally getting the help he needs and deserves.”

Ravi’s mental health is set to get even worse. Ahead of the storyline, Aaron Thiara pleaded with fans to “see the person” and “not the villain”. Some fans had been struggling to be sympathetic towards the character following his actions towards Harry.

Aaron said that he hopes fans can look past Ravi’s history amid his upcoming storyline, which EastEnders worked with mental health charity Samaritans on.

He said: “In these moments, I hope the audience can simply see a human being in crisis. Some may hold his history against him, but I hope people will see, not the villain, not the history, but the person underneath it all.”
