Emmerdale Joe Tate’s d.e.a.t.h ‘sealed’ after 31 years and fans know who k.i.l.l.s him
Emmerdale's Joe Tate could face a shock demise in upcoming scenes, according to soap fans
Fans of Emmerdale believe they’ve exposed Joe Tate’s d.e.a.t.h after 31 years in a shock twist. ITV soap viewers will know that Joe (played by Ned Porteous) is the orphaned son of Christopher Tate (Peter Amory) and Rachel Hughes (Glenda McKay), who was born in 1995.
Joe has wreaked havoc in the village since his return to Emmerdale in December 2024. He notably spiked his brother, Noah Dingle (Jack Downham), and left him out in the woods last year, which inevitably caused the tragic limo crash that claimed the lives of Amy Barton (Natalie Ann Jamieson), Leyla Harding (Roxy Shahidi) and Suzy Merton (Martelle Edinborough).
Joe was also behind Manpreet Sharma’s (Rebecca Sarker) blackmailing, and illegally stole a kidney from his uncle, Caleb Miligan (William Ash). The drama has continued after Joe made it his mission to take over Butler’s Farm from Moira (Natalie J Robb) and Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley). Weeks into her wrongful prison sentence, Moira reluctantly signed over her farm shares to Kim Tate (Claire King), much to Joe’s delight.

Joe’s actions have since left the Dingles and Tates at war, with the Dingles recently stealing cattle from Butler’s Farm to help fund their own new farm. The drama escalated after Joe ordered workmen to destroy Holly Barton’s (Sophie Powles) memorial at the weekend. Kim and Graham Foster (Andrew Scarborough) managed to keep Joe’s actions under wraps, while agreeing to make peace with the Dingles.
After learning that Lydia (Karen Blick) could stand to inherit Home Farm in Kim’s will, Caleb and Chas (Lucy Pargeter) joked that they could k.i.l.l her off to get their hands on the estate. It seems as though one member of the family took this literally, as Kim was poisoned during Monday’s (March 30) episode, which is now available to stream on ITVX.
Lydia was rushed to hospital after enduring a tense dinner at the Wishing Well cottage, with Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant) later confirming that she was likely suffering from mushroom poisoning, despite everyone else eating the same mushrooms.
Back at the cottage, a panicked Sam (James Hooton) said to Cain: “Tell me the truth. Them mushrooms you told me to pick,” with Cain quickly interjecting: “They were safe, Sam, and that’s all you need to know.”

Despite Kim seemingly being targeted, some Emmerdale fans are convinced that it will instead be Joe that meets his end in upcoming scenes. And in a shock twist, many believe that it could be Joe’s fiancée, Dawn Fletcher (Olivia Bromley), who will be responsible for his d.e.a.t.h.
Fans will remember that Dawn was particularly disgusted to learn of Holly’s memorial being destroyed, and warned Joe that she couldn’t be with him if she learned that he was responsible. Could learning of his true actions lead Dawn to k.i.l.l him?
“Who thinks we could be heading for a Joe Tate whodunnit?” one person asked on a Facebook fan page, with another adding: “I really think Dawn could lose it and accidentally k.i.l.l him after she learns about Holly’s memorial.”
A third said: “Don’t think Dawn is as stupid as she makes out… Hope she has a hand in his comeuppance,” with another similarly sharing: “I think Dawn will bring Joe down.” A fifth fan echoed the sentiment, saying: “What’s the chances Dawn finishes Joe off?”
