Emmerdale favourite dealt devastating blow as he announces ‘end of the road’
An Emmerdale favourite was given more heartbreaking news on Monday, and fans are worried

An Emmerdale favourite has been dealt a devastating blow as he announced the “end of the road”.
ITV soap viewers will remember that Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) was shot in the Corriedale crossover in January. Later, at the hospital, the Dales’ legend learned that doctors had found something abnormal in one of his tests, so they decided to investigate further with a biopsy.
Cain returned to the hospital last month to receive his test results, with the doctor confirming some sad news – Cain has aggressive, yet localised, prostate cancer. The village stalwart has only revealed his diagnosis to his granddaughter, Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill), and his friend and local GP, Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson).
While waiting for his surgery, which has been scheduled for April, Cain has also had to contend with his wife Moira’s (Natalie J Robb) prison sentence, as well as Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) trying to take over Butler’s Farm.
Things went from bad to worse during Monday’s (March 2) episode, which is now available to stream on ITVX. During the instalment, Lydia (Karen Blick) offered to look after Cain’s sons for a few days, but a proud Cain rejected the offer, shortly before realising just how close he was to breaking point.
Cain was soon angered to learn that Joe had arranged a herd inspection at the farm due to a suspected case of tuberculosis, meaning nothing could be moved off the farm until they received the all-clear.
Local vet Vanessa Woodfield (Michelle Hardwick) revealed that she had isolated the cow in question and reported the case to the Animal and Plant Health Agency, which was sending out one of its vets to test the herd.
“If any show up as positive, they will have to be culled. You will get compensation,” Vanessa revealed.
A distraught Cain, who has recently resorted to stealing cars to make some extra cash, replied: “It’s not enough… So, we could lose the whole herd, couldn’t we? This is it, the end of the road.”
