EastEnders star breaks silence on co-star’s return ‘there’s unfinished business’
Tracy-Ann Oberman is heading back to BBC soap EastEnders as Chrissie Watts in scenes set to air this week
Chrissie Watts is making a return to Albert Square.
The news was confirmed by Joel Beckett, who plays Jake Moon in the BBC soap. He broke the news during an appearance on ITV’s This Morning on Wednesday (February 11).
Speaking to hosts Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard, he revealed: “She will be back tomorrow night where she comes face to face, not only with Jake, but with Kat. And obviously they have a set to in true EastEnders style.”
Chrissie, portrayed by Tracy-Ann Oberman, last appeared in Walford over the festive period, when it was revealed that she was behind Zoe Slater’s (Michelle Ryan) ordeal. Her motive was retribution for Zoe’s involvement in Den Watts’ murder, a crime for which Chrissie served time.
The Slater-Moons have been on a mission to locate Chrissie, believing it will help Zoe, who is currently incarcerated following the death of Anthony Trueman (Nicholas Bailey). They suspect Chrissie played a part in his demise, reports OK!
In the episode airing on Thursday (February 12), Chrissie finally resurfaces. The soap teased: “Falling for Kat and Jake’s trap, Chrissie returns to Walford and a tense showdown ensues when Chrissie and Kat come face-to-face.”
Jake, who has had a tumultuous romantic history with Chrissie, recently returned to Walford himself, seeking answers.
Speaking on This Morning, he revealed: “There’s a lot of emotion. A lot of confrontation. A lot of guilt. And a lot of… unanswered questions and unfinished business.”
“Can he trust her?” Joel said of Chrissie. “Because, you know, we all know she’s a bit of a slippery character. So I think he’s kind of… In a way, he’s served his own sentence. And he’s come back to see, really, you know, does he trust her? Does he believe in her?”
“I think he does love her,” he admitted. “But he also knows that she’s a deeply flawed character. And I think he’s come back, the reason he comes back to see Zoe is to question that. He needs to find those answers for himself to see whether or not he can stay with her.”
Joel hinted that Chrissie returns “sort of giving her side of the story”, though noted that “she doesn’t really give any answers that are clear”.
