A beloved Dᴇᴀᴛʜ in Paradise character made a guest appearance in the Beyond Paradise Christmas special
Beyond Paradise aired its Christmas special tonight and saw a Dᴇᴀᴛʜ in Paradise character make an appearance. Selwyn Patterson (played by Don Warrington) reunited with Humphrey Goodman (Kris Marshall) as he and Martha Lloyd (Sally Bretton) finally tied the knot.
During the festive instalment, Humphrey and the team had two important cases to solve. One involved the break-in of a local bar, while the other involved a man named David (Adrian Edmondson), who showed up at the police station holding a picture of Humphrey, but had no idea why.
David, who had dementia, wanted the detective to help him track down his sister, whom he hadn’t seen in years. And while the team got to work, Martha and her mum, Anne (Barbara Flynn), were busy planning their surprise wedding.
Martha also asked her mum to collect a special friend from the station, who she had to keep hidden from Humphrey. However, towards the end of the episode, the mystery person was revealed to be the Commissioner.
“I can’t believe you have come all of this way just for me,” Humphrey said as he stood next to his best man.

“I didn’t,” the Commissioner replied. “I was in the UK anyway, visiting my daughter. This was a happy coincidence.”
“Even so, thank you, sir,” Humphrey went on. “Or should I call you Selwyn?”
“No,” Selwyn bluntly replied.
Humphrey and Martha then left everyone in floods of tears as they finally got married.
At the end of the ceremony, Selwyn received an unexpected call from Saint Marie, as Detective Mervin Wilson (Don Gilet) had called the Commissioner for his help.

“Inspector Wilson….” Selwyn said as he answered the call.
Humphrey went on to ask his old boss, “If everything was ok?” to which he replied, “That was the new inspector, he is working on a case in Saint Marie, but there seems to be links to the UK, which he would like me to look into while I am here.”
In the previous series of Dᴇᴀᴛʜ in Paradise, Selwyn decided to leave Saint Marie after he lost his job as the Commissioner. And despite being offered the job back, he decided not to take it.
However, fans will have to wait to see if the Commissioner returns home.
