Death in Paradise star Sally Bretton drops major spoiler as show makes Christmas return

The stars of Death in Paradise have accidentally dropped a major spoiler for the upcoming Christmas special.

The blunder occurred on This Morning, as TV personality Alison Hammond chatted with actors Sally Bretton and Kris Marshall, known for Beyond Paradise and Death in Paradise.

Sally, who plays Martha Lloyd in the BBC drama, spilled that her character plans to surprise Humphrey Goodman (Kris Marshall’s character) with a wedding ceremony.

Alison started the conversation by saying, “It looks so lovely. It’s a Christmas special, and I think what’s so great about this show is that it balances comedy and real emotion.

She asked: “But how does this Christmas special push Humphrey and Martha? Does it push them in a different direction? Are we going to get a wedding? What’s happening?”

Both actors met the question with a momentary pause, before Kris said, “Maybe”.

Presenter Ben Shephard then added, “I mean, how many times have you tried? Three?”

To which Sally responded: “Yeah, we’ve tried three, I think.”

Kris then jumped in with: “Sally’s character, Martha, is an amazing chef and entrepreneur, and yet together, they just seem to sort of not get stuff done. They’re quirky like that.”

When Ben pushed the duo on whether the wedding would actually take place, Sally accidentally said, “Well, she’s planning it.

“She’s going to make a grand gesture for him just to celebrate that their relationship is the most important thing in their lives, and so she just wants to grab it and throw sort of sparkle, light, and joy around it.

She then diplomatically added, “But we will see.”

Kris chimed in: “I think she knows that if things go wrong, it’s often him. He gets in the way. So, if she surprises him, there’s not a lot he can do to mess it up.”

He added, “The show is, you know, it’s not just a potential wedding, it’s three very festive mysteries and wonderful guest stars. James Lance from Ted Lasso, and Johnny Weldon, who you saw in a clip, and Ade Edmondson, who is wonderful.

“And we have two very special guests. One is inside a snowman who is found sleeping in a skip. And the other is an extremely special guest whom I cannot mention.”

Ben then said, “There is a lovely moment because we’ve been able to see it. There’s a lovely moment when that guest turns up, and it’s a real, it’s sort of like a colliding of history, yeah, particularly for Humphrey.”
