Tyler Perry’s House of Payne | Season 14 Episode 15 Review: Can We Have Dinner

🎥 House of Payne Season 14 Episode 15 Review — “Can We Have Dinner?”

Calvin in denial, Jasmine in journalism mode, and the pacing… oh boy.

Okay, House of Payne fans — let’s talk Season 14, Episode 15: “Can We Have Dinner?”

And yes, let me say this right up front:
My theory about the title having a double meaning? 100% correct.
Not just Jasmine & Jackson… but Calvin & Miranda too.
Right. On. The. Money.

But before we dive in, two quick confessions:

  1. I watched the episode live for the first time in ages.

  2. I will never, EVER do that again.

Because let me tell you… House of Payne without double-speed playback and with full commercial breaks?
Some of these scenes felt like they went on for geological ages.

Was the episode bad?
No.
But dragged out? Absolutely.

There were bright spots — like seeing five generations of Payne men walk into CJ’s house:
Curtis → CJ → Calvin → Malik → Junior.
A genuinely fun moment.

But overall?
Yeah… this episode moved like molasses.

I’m giving it a 6/10.

Let’s break it down.

B-Plot: Jasmine & Jackson — Journalism, Investigation… and Dinner?

Jasmine and her classmates are working on a journalism project about an upcoming election — not the HOA election with Glow and Mrs. Wellington (which honestly would’ve been fun), but something for their campus.

Jackson shows up “late,” even though — plot twist — he’s actually one minute early.
CJ greets everyone, and Jackson walks in right on cue.

But here’s the highlight:

Jackson did real journalism.

He physically went to the courthouse to pull candidate records.
Because online, you have to pay a fee.

That was such a perfect detail — and honestly, refreshingly realistic.
Nowadays people assume everything is digital, but:

  • Court records?

  • Old files?

  • Certain public documents?

Sometimes you still have to go in person.

And Jasmine asking, “Why didn’t you just do it online?”
Jackson’s reply: “My pockets wouldn’t allow that fee.”
PERFECT.

Then the class discusses:

  • One candidate with a driving ticket

  • The other with an assault charge

And Jasmine points out:
“Was it self-defense? We don’t know.”

Loved the nuance there.

Later, Jackson brings over equipment and — smooth as ever — asks Jasmine out to dinner.
She says she’ll think about it.

It’s happening y’all.
It is happening.

That’s the B-plot. Cute, brief, solid.

A-Plot: Calvin, Miranda, and the Rose-Colored Glasses of Delusion

Malik is in a foul mood because Melissa kept him up all night — and CJ jokes about Malik aging like he’s 50, which is funny because fans have been saying the same for years since the weight loss.

Janine joins in, Malik snaps at everybody, and then we shift to the real story:

The family wants the tea on Miranda’s new man.
Janine refuses to say anything.

CJ tries baiting her by saying Calvin has been thinking about Miranda again.
Janine:

“That ship has sailed. Get over it.”

Period.

🔥 Over at the Condo… Calvin Is Struggling

Calvin is exhausted:

  • Junior isn’t helping with the fundraiser

  • Christian needs help with Spanish homework

  • Calvin is losing patience

Miranda walks in unannounced — because she sensed Calvin was stressed over the phone — and immediately takes charge:

  • Junior gets off the video game

  • Christian’s Spanish project gets sorted

  • The whole room falls into line

Classic Miranda “fix-it mode.”

But here’s where Calvin gets emotional:

He starts reminiscing about the “good” marriage they had.

…Sir.
…SIR.
You two fought almost daily.

The family even says so later.

Calvin invites Miranda to dinner.
She declines — because she already has plans — and his little heart visibly shatters.

🔥 Back at CJ’s House: The Five Payne Men & Reality Checks

Loved the five-generation entrance — great energy.

Junior’s team lost, but he made solid plays. Curtis apparently threatened the umpire (unseen, sadly). But Calvin’s mind is elsewhere:

“I love when Miranda comes to the games.
Laura never made it — she was always busy with work, hair, or mimosas.”

Painfully honest… and very telling.

The men set him straight:

  • “Your marriage wasn’t great.”

  • “You fought constantly.”

  • “Don’t rebound.”

  • “Let it go, son.”

Malik slips up and almost reveals Miranda has a new man — but stops himself.

🔥 Final Scene: Calvin Questions Ella

Calvin visits Ella and lightly probes:

“Has Miranda said anything? She busy lately?
…Is she dating someone?”

Ella dodges beautifully:

“Ask her.”

End of episode.

🎯 Final Thoughts

This episode wasn’t terrible — but it should not have been stretched to a full 22 minutes.

The key takeaways:

  • Calvin is deep in denial, rewriting his marriage with Miranda like it was some fairy tale.

  • He’s comparing Laura — who was absent — to Miranda, who can still run his house better than he can.

  • He’s confusing emotional comfort with romantic destiny.

  • Malik nearly spilled the secret.

  • And Miranda is obviously moving on — and Calvin is the last to catch up.

The title “Can We Have Dinner?” perfectly reflects BOTH stories:

  • Jackson → Jasmine

  • Calvin → Miranda

But only one of those dinners is happening anytime soon.
