Return to Paradise’s Mack embarks on new romance as fans predict ‘third wheel’
Return to Paradise viewers were left speechless after watching DI Mackenzie Clarke's date on Friday

Return to Paradise’s Mack embarked on a new romance on Friday (November 21) as fans predicted a “third wheel”.
The popular crime comedy drama revolves around DI Mackenzie Clarke (Anna Samson), who, under a cloud of suspicion, was compelled to leave London and return to her least favourite place – her hometown of Dolphin Cove, Australia. Here, her determination and work ethic aid her in solving murder mysteries.
The cast also features Lloyd Griffith as Detective Senior Constable Colin Cartwright, Tai Hara as Mack’s ex-fiancé, Glenn Strong, and Catherine McClements as Senior Sergeant Philomena Strong.
The second spin-off from Death in Paradise premiered on BBC One last year, with the second series currently being broadcast, reports the Express.
In the most recent episode of the hit drama, a CEO was poisoned at a spiritual ceremony during a corporate retreat, prompting Mack, Colin and Glenn to launch a thorough investigation.
However, many viewers were sidetracked when Mack revealed she was using a dating app and later went for drinks with a man named Dustin (Richard Brancatisano).
Colin and Glenn observed as Mack awkwardly met with the plumber, who expressed his admiration for her waistcoat. But when Dustin went to the bar to fetch drinks, Mack fled the table after receiving a call about the case from Felix Wilkinson (Aaron McGrath).
The following day, Glenn asked Mack about her date, asking: “Not your type?”
“You seem very interested,” Mack retorted, with Glenn responding: “I’m just making conversation.”
Following the resolution of the case, Colin urged Mack to make amends with Dustin after her sudden departure from their date, though she instead turned to him for guidance regarding a plumbing issue.
With Mack’s venture into romance failing to unfold as anticipated, BBC viewers were swift to voice their opinions on X (formerly Twitter).
“What could possibly go wrong? Everything,” one viewer commented, whilst another observed: “So Colin went on the date as the wingman and wished he would have stayed around. It’s a twist.”
A third remarked: “Mack doesn’t have a good time. That’s not her thing.”
Another viewer reflected this view, noting: “I love how invested everyone is in Mack’s dating life,” with a fellow fan similarly posting: “Colin. The potential third wheel.”
