There’s an almighty flashforward twist on the way on EastEnders, as an episode on New Year’s Day 2026 takes us a year into the future.
We will see a glimpse of 2027, as well as major hints of all the big plots unfolding across the next 12 months from that day. Max Branning will take centre stage, as Jake Wood makes his comeback to the BBC soap.
Secrets are set to be revealed, with multiple storylines involving Max culminating into a huge episode on New Year’s Day 2027. Fans will get their first glimpse of the trouble he is in, and how 2027 will look when this New Year, a full flashforward episode airs.
A promo picture for the announcement appears to show Max in a suit, possibly for a wedding, with a white rose attached on the collar of his blazer. The flower has blood on it, so is Max in danger?

This could well be the case, and he’s not the only one. It’s been revealed that the events of the special flashforward will be the result of whatever happens across 2026 for Max and the Brannings.
There will be massive consequences, while plenty is still being kept under wraps. What has been said is that Max faces drama and trouble, and is involved in several plots that will no doubt collide in a year or so’s time.
The episode will no doubt share a glimpse of the aftermath too of the trouble Max brings to Walford across the following year, effectively teasing the next two years for the Branning family on the soap. It will be a 30-minute episode on January 1 2026, and it will be an entire flashforward episode from start to finish.

The Brannings will face huge repercussions, as Max finds himself at the epicentre of all the drama and chaos coming up. The special episode will tease Max’s future in Walford, and that of his loved ones.
Speaking about the big episode and what’s ahead, Executive Producer Ben Wadey teased the show first. He said: “For the first time in the show’s history, we’re going to be offering our viewers an entire flashforward episode set on New Year’s Day 2027.
“2026 is going to be full of drama in Walford, especially for the Brannings, and the episode is sure to raise plenty of questions on how Max has got himself, and his family, into such predicaments, but all is not what it seems, so stay tuned for 2026 to find out how and why.”
